Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration Continues

Updated: Sep 10

Fashion Show Las Vegas and Grand Canal Shoppes Join the Festivities

By Isabel M. Castro

Fashion Show Las Vegas (FSLV) will embrace Hispanic Heritage Month and Mexican Independence Day with a series of lively events and cultural celebrations starting on Sunday, September 15. From noon to 3 p.m. The Great Hall will buzz with the sounds of mariachi bands, tantalizing food options, traditional dancers, and a DJ spinning top Latin hits. This lively celebration promises to captivate audiences of all ages and offer an immersive experience of the vibrant cultural heritage of Mexico.

A Tribute to Tradition

Every year, September 16—Día de la Independencia—marks the beginning of Mexico's struggle for freedom from Spanish rule, a fight that ended with the country’s independence in 1821. The holiday honors the Grito de Dolores (Cry of Dolores), a rallying call made in 1810 by Catholic priest Miguel Hidalgo, which ignited Mexico’s revolutionary movement. The day is celebrated with parades, fireworks, music, and reenactments of Hidalgo’s cry, symbolizing Mexican pride and unity.

"You Are Beautiful" Interactive Art Installation

In addition to the festivities, the renowned "You Are Beautiful" art installation by Chicago artist Matthew Hoffman will return to FSLV from September 15 through October 11. This year’s installation will feature affirmations in both Spanish and English, celebrating Hispanic culture and encouraging self-expression. Drawing inspiration from the traditional Mexican papel picado (cut-paper banners), the installation will offer Instagram-worthy moments filled with messages of positivity and cultural pride.

FSLV is also proud to support and showcase Latinx-owned retail brands across the shopping destination, reflecting the rich cultural diversity that defines the Las Vegas community.

El Grito Ceremony at Grand Canal Shoppes

For those seeking a deeper connection to Mexican Independence Day traditions, the nearby Grand Canal Shoppes will host a special El Grito (Cry of Independence) ceremony—the only one of its kind in Las Vegas—on Sunday, September 15 at 11 p.m. The event will feature traditional Mexican dancers, live music, delicious food options, and family-friendly activities that capture the essence of this historic celebration.

"We are excited to host Grand Canal Shoppes’ annual Mexican Independence Day celebration, featuring a vibrant photo opportunity and the city's only traditional 'El Grito' ceremony, with a special performance by Eli Zamora, a former contestant on The Voice," said Torri Ishida, Entertainment & Special Events Manager at Grand Canal Shoppes inside The Venetian Resort Las Vegas. "Here at The Shoppes, we aim to create vibrant opportunities that allow our guests to immerse themselves in cultural celebrations throughout the year. We are thrilled to continue enriching our community through this Mexican Independence Day event.”
