Eclectic Womxn celebrates Art is Life

Savidan Art Gallery embodies that “art is life,” and an exceptional show gives art life through the end of April. The exhibit Eclectic Womxn opened on March 4 and will be on display until April 28.

I enjoyed touring the exhibit guided by Gallery Director Louise Rogers. The work of the 24 artists featured in the exhibition includes oils, acrylics, watercolors, sculpture, photography, drawings, and mixed media.

There are so many talented women whose art is displayed. This includes:

• Sharon Gainsburg;

• Intense watercolor on paper Let Them Eat Cake by Lolita Develay;

• A collaborative painting entitled The Goddess Within by Bex Nichols, Kim Johnson, and Regina Vinicky;

• Watercolor and ink sketches Chicago I-V by Rachel O’Neill;

• A gorgeous acrylic and resin tryptych called Against All Odds from Laura Canlas’ Obsidian Collection;

• A self-portrait in acrylic by artist Maricela Lopez, just to name a few of the outstanding pieces in the show.

The entire gallery is a tribute to one woman, Suzanne L’Hostis, with a profound love of the arts who cultivated a collection of original art posters that spanned decades of art and culture in Paris.

The Savidan Art Gallery opened its Las Vegas location within the Faciliteq Showroom in October 2018. Located off the Vegas Strip, the gallery is surrounded by the best of what Las Vegas has to offer. Fine dining, entertainment, and extravagant casino interiors encompass this unique place of art. Patrons of the arts and tourists are invited to experience scheduled exhibitions and networking events and view the ever-changing display of the gallery’s 600-piece poster art collection.

"Culture War Rubble or Creative Renaissance?" Was our headline for the recent recap of the City of Las Vegas' Arts and Culture Summit last month. The Creative Economy will reign supreme in our time at the dawn of the third millennium, but to what end? Will it be an era of advancement fueled by human inspiration in concert with technological discovery, or a rush toward a dark age with ill-informed exploitation of creative enterprise in competition with AI fads and Big Tech?

Creative workers need to learn as quickly as they can about blockchain, NFTs, cryptocurrency, and AI not only to survive financially, but to advance and improve our condition as a society. I have studied and taught enough about Shakespeare's age to know that a renaissance does not come until the Artists of the world grab hold of innovation and make it work for them. I grew up in Silicon Valley in it's early years and I have learned hard lessons about what a double-edged sword the tech industry is to our creative ecosystem. Arts workers who learn early survive and create opportunity. Eat More Art Vegas is on a mission to make that easier for local artists to do just that.

Attend cNFTcon this September 29th through October 1st, 2023. Attendees will learn a number of topics in the space including the basics of blockchain, artificial intelligence, NFTs, DAOs, staking, digital ID, security, Metaverse, and how all of these will change or impact business, government, education, economy and entertainment. The NEVADA ARTS AND CULTURE AEP6 audience survey deadline is May 2023!

WHAT IS AEP6?

Arts & Economic Prosperity 6 (AEP6) is an economic impact study of the nation’s nonprofit arts and culture industry. It is the largest and most inclusive study of its kind ever conducted, with a specific focus on 360 participating communities from across all 50 states plus the District of Columbia.

The Nevada Arts Council, Clark County Public Arts Office, and the City of Las Vegas Office of Cultural Affairs are research partners identified to assist Americans for the Arts (AFTA) with two primary data collection efforts:​

• An audience-intercept survey of attendees to arts and culture events that take place in the community

• A budget and attendance survey of the nonprofit culture organizations in the community.

​Each community partner will receive a customized final report of their DATA in Fall, 2023.

ATTENTION NONPROFIT LEADERS

1. Be on the lookout for the simple ORGANIZATION SURVEY email from AFTA & fill it out.

2. We still need audience surveys through May 2023, so share the QR survey codes at your events!

• The anonymous audience surveys take 3 min tops from the comfort of their smartphone
