Ready to express your inner Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss or Roy Scheider as the play explores how these three actors interacted with each other during the filming of the movie “Jaws?” The Las Vegas Little Theatre is holding auditions for actors to perform in the play “The Shark is Broken.”
Audition Dates and Times: In-person auditions will take place on Monday, August 18 and Tuesday, August 19 at 7 p.m.
Location: Las Vegas Little Theatre 3920 Schiff Drive
Performance Dates: Oct. 17-Nov. 2 with performances on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.
Show Description: In 1974, the filming of Jaws was underway. The film’s three lead actors —Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss and Roy Scheider—are stuck together on the boat Orca because Bruce, the mechanical shark used in the film, is broken. Filming has consequently been stalled for several days, turning into weeks. The Shark Is Broken explores the three actors’ boredom, arguments and stories told aboard the boat during the delay.
All roles are available. They are looking for actors to embody the people, not caricatures.
Robert Shaw:
A seasoned, hard-drinking British actor, known for his Shakespearean background and gruff exterior. He’s portrayed as a man’s man, a “modern poet-warrior” who can be both tough and sensitive, and is also a father figure to the younger actors.
Richard Dreyfuss:
A younger, insecure actor who is struggling with his ego and self-doubt while trying to make his mark in Hollywood. He is portrayed as sensitive, whiny, and prone to insecurity, despite his burgeoning talent.
Roy Scheider:
The most even-tempered of the three, he’s presented as someone who just wants to relax and work on his tan, but who also has his own internal struggles.
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.
Headshots and resumes are accepted but are not required.
