Nevada Ballet Theatre (NBT) returns to The Smith Center for the Performing Arts with an iconic tale of love, loss, and fate: Romeo & Juliet. With four performances Oct. 17–19, NBT invites audiences to experience Shakespeare’s timeless tragedy like never before—through the power and poetry of ballet.

Choreographed by James Canfield, this full-length production blends classical ballet with theatrical storytelling, transporting audiences to 15th-century Verona. Against a backdrop of intricate sets and rich period costumes, the Montagues and Capulets come to life in a world where love and loyalty are at odds with ancient rivalries.

Set to the sweeping score of Sergei Prokofiev, Romeo & Juliet is more than just a love story. It's a poignant exploration of youth, passion, and defiance—expressed through movement that speaks where words fall short. From rousing sword fights and dramatic street scenes to delicate pas de deux, Canfield’s choreography captures the raw emotional spectrum of this classic tale.

From the lively street scenes and masterful swordplay to the elegance of courtly dances, Canfield’s choreography balances physical drama with poetic grace—highlighting the emotional depth and technical brilliance of NBT’s ensemble.
