The Fallout Fringe Fest comes to an end with only two more days of shows. It has been a surprising and wonderful journey. I expected a mix of great, mediocre, and awful shows. But what I found was well-curated, engaging theater for the most part. In addition to what I reviewed here, there have been one-time-only pop-up shows, classes, and events. You can read about some of them on my Instagram: @erikreviewsvegas. The producers graciously made me feel at home, and I can’t wait for next year. Here is the last review. You can access the full schedule at www.falloutfringe.org/schedule.

50 Percent Success Rate by Dina Emerson  ★★★★ Scrumptious

Dina Emerson is a seasoned performer whom you might have seen in the Cirque du Soleil shows O and Mystere. Here she brings her performing and singing chops to tell the stories of her two grandfathers who attempted to commit suicide, one succeeding and one failing (Hence the title - 50 Percent Success Rate). This show was simply beautiful. Dina is a delight on stage as she weaves story, song, and dance to create a deep, rich show that explores mortality and death and her contemplations on the subject. It reminded me at times of Laurie Anderson back in the day, using the abstract to expose the truth. It was at times funny, at times heartbreaking, and at times just mesmerizing. You can’t help but like Dina as you watch her. A wonderful show and a fitting end to a great festival.
