An Oasis for the Senses: Rita Deanin Abbey Art Museum Announces Nov. Events

ree

This November, the Rita Deanin Abbey Art Museum welcomes the public to experience a full calendar of cultural events. The museum will host a variety of curated offerings that combine multiple disciplines, including a theatrical festival, a concert experience featuring strings, workshops on meditation and wellness, and a rejuvenating sound bath.

Saturday, Nov. 8, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Nicola Lea Kilyushik will lead an expanded foundational movement class: Moving Meditation: Qi Gong, Tai Chi, and Yoga Nidra Foundations. Experience 90 minutes of mindful movement, breath awareness, and deep relaxation, integrating the healing foundations of Qi Gong, Tai Chi, and Yoga Nidra. This immersive session invites guests to reconnect with their bodies and minds through gentle, intentional practices. Qi Gong cultivates and circulates vital life energy (qi) through slow, flowing movements and breath work to support balance, vitality, and calm. Tai Chi builds on this foundation with graceful, choreographed sequences known as “forms” that promote coordination, focus, and inner strength. Yoga Nidra, or “yogic sleep,” is a guided meditation designed to bring the body into deep rest while keeping the mind alert, thereby enhancing self-awareness, promoting stress relief, and fostering emotional clarity. Together, these complementary practices support physical well-being, reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep quality, and foster greater creativity and intuition. Guests are encouraged to dress comfortably and bring water, a yoga mat, and any necessary supports (such as a blanket or cushion); however, no other beverages or food are permitted in the museum galleries. All experience levels are welcome, and tickets are priced at $30 per session for individuals aged 16 and above.

Saturday, Nov. 8, from 2 to 4 p.m.

The Rita Deanin Abbey Art Museum will welcome the return of Desert Opus for a live performance of “Colors: A Concert Experience on Strings.” The string ensemble will treat attendees to a matinee performance where art and music converge in harmony. The thoughtfully curated performance explores the expressive power of sound and color through works that span eras and styles – from the lyrical and contemplative to the bold and rhythmically dynamic. The performance will include the talents of violist Arturo Hernández Gómez, violinists James Anderson and Deborah Kim, and cellist David Warner.

Throughout the concert, guests are invited to reflect on emotion, movement, and form, celebrating the shared language of artistic expression and connection through the works of Claude Debussy, David Balakrishnan, Caroline Shaw, and Samuel Barber, among others. Following the concert, a reception will be held with soft beverages available for attendees.

Tickets are $30 per person for individuals 12 years and older, and must be reserved in advance.

Nicole Scheerer, owner and founder of The Sunshine Den, will lead Sweet Flow Yoga. Sweet flow yoga is a gentle, breath-centered practice designed to soothe the body, calm the mind, and uplift the spirit. This class blends slow-flowing movements with mindful pauses, creating space for deep release and inner stillness. Designed for all levels, it’s an ideal way to increase flexibility, unwind, reconnect, and restore balance from the inside out. Scheerer, a certified yoga instructor, Reiki master, and theta practitioner with over 20 years of experience, finds immense joy in sharing the transformative power of yoga with others. Guests are encouraged to bring a yoga mat, blanket, water bottle, and any additional blocks or supports they may need. Sunday, Nov. 16, from 12:30 to 2 p.m.

Terry Mahoney will facilitate a healing Sound Bath. A Sound Bath is a deeply immersive, full-body listening experience that intentionally uses sound to nurture the spirit and support the healing of the mind and body. This month’s sound bath is offered with the intention of gratitude and community — a gentle invitation to honor the abundance already present in our lives. We’ll create space to recognize the gift of this present moment, appreciate the connections we share, and celebrate the beauty of gathering together in collective intention. The museum invites guests to bring a water bottle, a yoga mat, and/or a blanket, as well as any additional items they may need to achieve a comfortable and meditative state, such as pillows, blocks, and bolsters. Guests are welcome to bring water; however, no other beverages or food are permitted in the museum. Tickets are priced at $30 per session for individuals aged 16 and above.

Sunday, Nov. 23, from 3 to 5 p.m.

The Asylum Theatre returns to the museum for the 2nd Solo Play Day Festival with a performance of “Gifts of Gratitude.” This inspiring afternoon of poetry, music, and monodrama is created and performed by Sarah O’Connell. Set amid the Rita Deanin Abbey Art Museum’s striking collection, this performance celebrates the power of individual expression and the ways art connects us across borders and disciplines.

Presented in partnership with the Ukraine-based WEST Association, the international Solo Play Day Festival unites artists and audiences worldwide through staged readings, solo performances, workshops, and creative exchanges.

Following the performance, guests are invited to stay for a reception and a sparkling toast among the artwork. Tickets are priced at $25 per person and must be reserved in advance.

Visitors will enter the extraordinary world of a gifted artist. Rita Deanin Abbey’s imagination, talent, and beauty of spirit, influenced by her love of the desert southwest, are offered in a 10,500 square-foot museum that showcases the astonishing variety of her work, from abstract expressionist paintings to stained-glass windows, sculptures, landscapes, figure studies, murals, enamels, and more. In 2024, Abbey was inducted posthumously into the University of Nevada, Las Vegas College of Fine Arts Hall of Fame for her remarkable career.

Tickets to all events are available here. The museum, located at 5850 N. Park Street in northwest Las Vegas, is open Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are available by appointment only and can be purchased online.
