EMAV 10 Bites: Tim Warren, Conductor

In every neighborhood, there is someone who makes the Arts a part of their life, and our community. You'd be surprised to discover how many different people use the arts to improve the quality of life in our hometown. EAT MORE ART! VEGAS will feature them regularly in our series "10 Bites."

What kinds of art do you enjoy, create, or perform in?

I enjoy all forms of performing and visual arts. I perform as a conductor of orchestra, band, opera, choir, musical theatre, and new music.

Why do you do it?

I have been inspired by many fantastic teachers and performers and I enjoy the challenge of bringing together talented artists and aligning their abilities to create moving memorable experiences.

What’s your favorite production/performance experience so far?

Every performance brings different experiences. As a young musician I had the opportunity to teach and conduct in Australia. Seeing the Sydney Opera House for the first time was awesome and I sat behind the orchestra, by the timpani, to see and hear Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. I have enjoyed conducting is some pretty great venues, but I'll never forget the incredible acoustics of both La Madeleine and Sainte-Trinité in Paris.

What jobs have you done other than being an artist, or what do you do when you are "at work?"

In addition to performing, I enjoy teaching music. Both of which I consider an art.

What is an arts experience that you will never forget, or a memorable response to your work?

I am in a unique situation where my back is turned to the audience and I silently wave a stick. I have the best seat in the house for every performance and there is no better feeling than inspiring and reacting to the performers in front of me. One of my current students texted me this "the biggest thing would be that you forge an ambition to learn and get better at whatever one is trying to accomplish and do what you can to share and pass on what you know to create another good musician"

What would you be doing if you weren't performing, creating, or enjoying the Arts in Las Vegas?

I can't imagine not enjoying those activities, but if I was not in Las Vegas I would be doing it on the East Coast either Pennsylvania or Massachusetts.

Name something you love about Las Vegas, and why.

I love the diversity of Las Vegas (Culture, People, Performance, Visitors, Food, Nature)

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

Make your weakness your strength

What superpower would you have and why?

With all of the ups and downs and struggles of the world, I would love to have the power to bring happiness to people. If I had a secondary power, I would be able to correct intonation just by looking at the instrument. 🎻💪🏻

What future projects are you looking forward to?

Southern Nevada Chamber Orchestra

July 13 & 14

UNLV Band Scandinavian Tour

July 16 - 25

NEXTET New Music Ensemble

September 19
