A Public Fit Theatre Company (APf) presents the first mainstage show of its 11th season with The Minutes, a dark comedy by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tracy Letts. The show opens October 25 and runs for four weeks through November 18 at the SST Studio Theatre, 4340 S. Valley View Blvd. Ticket prices are $45 for General Admission, with special pricing available for Students, Seniors, and active Military personnel.
“This is truly a piece of theatre ripe for our time,” says APf Artistic Director Ann-Marie Pereth, who, along with Joseph Kucan, directs the show. “The Minutes is a play about political power and how it’s often used to obscure truth, manipulate history, and maintain control over a community. It highlights how those in power can exploit their positions to silence dissent, rewrite narratives, and protect their own interests, often at the expense of justice and accountability.”
“And though you might not believe it from that description,” adds Kucan, “it’s truly hilarious! Tracy Letts really understands the near-farcical language of entitled bureaucracy!”
Set in the fictional town of Big Cherry, The Minutes presents a routine city council meeting going off the rails when one councilman uncovers buried secrets about the town’s troubling history.
“If you’ve ever enjoyed one of those ‘insane moments in local council meeting’ videos,” says Pereth, “this is the play for you!”
The Minutes features the talents of John Allen, Joe Basso, Valerie Carpenter Bernstein, Andrew Calvert, Jamie Carvelli, Jamey M. Clay, Timothy Cummings, Jenny Fox, Brian David Sloan and Jenny Fox.
“And what a cast!” adds Pereth. “I don’t remember a more talented ensemble of performers ever assembled in APf’s history!”
Immediately following each performance, audiences are invited to join the cast and production staff in a moderated discussion of the themes and discoveries presented in the play. This APf hallmark – The Buzz – ensures that the conversations surrounding captivating theatre are shared by the community. The Buzz is an expression of A Public Fit’s ongoing commitment to engage audiences well beyond the limits of the stage. “And during this election season,” says Kucan, “I’m sure the play will give us a LOT to talk about!”
