Meow Wolf worked with Santa Fe’s clever Refract Studio to build multiple AR immersive experiences using spatial technologies that are meant to evoke that Meow Wolf feeling that things can be more than they seem. These experiences mirror what happens when you walk into Omega Mart. You start somewhere familiar, and then things get really weird, really fast. A regular bus stop becomes something else entirely. The result is intentionally maximalist, dense, and strange in a way that isn’t often seen in AR, since it is usually clean lines and minimal interfaces.
Omega Mart staff will be on hand through Friday, Jan. 9, from noon until 4 p.m. to help passersby activate their own AR experience. The AR locations will be active through the end of February for all to enjoy.
The experience is free, and something visitors and locals alike can stumble across at a bus stop and a shopping mall, and maybe their commute or shopping trip gets a little bit of magic.
The three Strip locations feature AR posters with QR codes that launch three different Omega Mart AR experiences.
Omega Mart helpers stationed at two bus shelters will actively encourage passersby to scan the AR, experience it, and share the fun map. The AR also offers a special 25% discount for visits through Jan. 11. The same discount is embedded directly in the AR experience, so curious commuters and shoppers can book on their phones immediately.
This fun activation features great visuals from the locations and the fun map (included), as well as discounted tickets to explore “Where Reality Checks Out.”
