Rita Deanin Abbey Art Museum to Host Creative Writing Workshop Feb. 25




“Ekphrastic Games: A Playful Approach to Art-Inspired Poetry” Workshop conducted by JM Huck.

 

The Rita Deanin Abbey Art Museum will offer a creative writing workshop led by emerging poet and arts administrator JM Huck beginning at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25.

 

 “Ekphrastic Games: A Playful Approach to Art-Inspired Poetry” will be a 90-minute workshop for beginners or established writers looking for a new writing experience. Participants will be able to view art collections within the museum and explore art-inspired writing through interactive activities, as well as respond to various writing prompts during the session. Participants are encouraged to explore the museum and outdoor sculpture garden further after the workshop.

 

Huck is passionate about community engagement, a Clark County Poet Laureate Coordinator and co-founded WeWrite! (@wewritelv on Instagram). This literary arts group offers support for writers to develop their craft. Huck’s poetry synthesizes her understanding of culture, history, nature and science. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Agnes Scott College and a certificate in museum studies from the American Association for State and Local History.

 

The Rita Deanin Abbey Art Museum is a unique and hidden gem in northwest Las Vegas. It features an astonishing and diverse array of art entirely by its namesake, Rita Deanin Abbey. The 10,500-square-foot museum captures the extraordinary breadth of Abbey’s art, from abstract expressionist paintings to figure drawings, monumental sculptures and beyond. The museum property also features a courtyard, desert garden, outdoor sculpture garden and Abbey’s studio.


Visitors will enter the extraordinary world of a gifted artist. Rita Deanin Abbey’s imagination, talent, and beauty of spirit, influenced by her love of the desert southwest, are offered in a 10,500 square-foot museum that showcases the astonishing variety of her work, from abstract expressionist paintings to stained-glass windows, sculptures, landscapes, figure studies, murals, enamels, and more. The museum, located in northwest Las Vegas at 5850 N. Park Street, is open Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are available by appointment only and may be purchased online. Tickets to the Ekphrastic Games: A Playful Approach to Art-Inspired Poetry” workshop are priced at $20 each.
