Missy Parker: A Multifaceted Force in Music and Theatre

By Debbie Hall

Speeding Theatre presents Ghostwriter the Musical is a witty and heartwarming new production about a young songwriting team struggling with writer’s block who find inspiration from an unexpected source. Featuring 14 original songs, this imaginative musical blends humor, heart, and a touch of the supernatural. Book, music, and lyrics are by award-winning composer and playwright Missy Parker.

Parker stands as a rare creative powerhouse whose talents span every corner of the performing arts. An award-winning composer, lyricist, pianist, actor, author, director, producer, and published playwright, Parker has built a career defined by versatility, excellence, and artistic passion.

A prolific creator, she has written five original full-length musicals, one of which premiered Off-Broadway in New York City. Her work has garnered critical acclaim and industry recognition, including a Television “Ace” Award nomination for HBO, a Cine Golden Eagle Award, a Billboard Song Finalist honor, and dual ADA Awards for “Best Director” and “Best Actor.”

As a national recording artist and four-time Grammy Award contender, Parker’s music has reached audiences across genres and generations. Her extensive composing and arranging credits include custom songs and “special material” for film, television, celebrity showcases, and cabaret acts, encompassing a diverse range of musical styles.

In addition to her work behind the scenes, Parker has headlined her own solo shows, performing with symphony orchestras across the nation. Her performances have graced iconic stages—from Carnegie Hall to NBC’s The Tonight Show—and venues across cruise ships and cultural arts centers.

Her collaborative spirit and musical mastery have also made her a sought-after conductor and arranger for some of entertainment’s most celebrated names, including Andy Williams, Carol Channing, Phoebe Snow, Carol Lawrence, Mitzi Gaynor, Eartha Kitt, Phyllis Diller, Sid Caesar, and Linda Hopkins.

Through every note, lyric, and performance, Parker continues to embody the essence of artistry—bridging the worlds of theatre, music, and storytelling with grace, humor, and boundless creativity.
