The Winchester Theater Presents Eastern European Seasons in Las Vegas Nov. 19

The Winchester Dondero Cultural Center, located at 3130 McLeod Drive near Desert Inn Road, is proud to present the Russian Seasons show; an exciting multitude of musical maestros, including Dr. Maria “Masha” Pisarenko, Dmytro Nehrych, and Svetlana Goritselov on Nov. 19 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Attendance for this event is $10 per person. An exciting and diverse program of Eastern European Chamber Music, including works from P. Tchaikovsky, D. Shostakovich, D. Rachmaninoff, R. Shchedrin, and John Williams's music for the famous movie “Schindler’s List.” Audiences will experience the musical genius of Dr. Maria “Masha” Pisarenko (piano), Dmytro Nehrych (violin), and Svetlana Goritselov (cello).

Dr. Maria (Masha) Pisarenko is actively involved in the cultural life of Las Vegas as a performer, educator, and artistic director promoting the Russian Language, Music, and Culture. She has performed on some of the world's most prestigious stages, including in Russia, Asia, Europe, and the United States. She also received the 2018 Steinway Top Teacher Award. Dmytro Nehrych received a Bachelor's and a Master's degree from UNLV in Violin Performance in 2018. As a graduate assistant at UNLV, Dmytro taught theory classes, led orchestra rehearsals, and gave private violin lessons to UNLV students. In 2013, he became a winner of the UNLV Concerto Competition and played solo with UNLV Symphony Orchestra.

Jazz Outreach Initiative Celebrates with Concerts

Jazz Outreach Initiative celebrates, performs, educates, and raises public awareness of jazz. Through concerts, classes, and community building, JOI brings a world of creativity and higher consciousness to the students, performers, and audience.

The Las Vegas Youth Jazz Orchestra, directed by Gary Cordell, will perform with the CSN Big Band, directed by David Phy, at the Nicholas J. Horn Theater in CSN Cheyenne on Nov. 29. For the holidays, the 2nd Annual Duke Ellington’s The Nutcracker Suite will be performed by JOI Jazz Orchestra with Clint Holmes at the Starbright Theatre on Dec. 22.

“We love performing and bringing jazz to the holidays,” said Donny Thompson, Executive Director of JOI. “Our musicians, especially our youth, are amazing with this great American art form.”

Recently, #MakeADifferenceDay inspired people to volunteer, and the motto of JOI is “Let’s Make A Difference!” It takes a team to make the dream work. JOI is announcing the creation of the JOI Jazz Alliance, a volunteer wing of dedicated and enthusiastic jazz lovers who will help us continue building a world-class jazz community and culture for Southern Nevada.

“One of the biggest gifts someone can give is the gift of time,” says Donny. “Our volunteers help the youth and expand one of the greatest American musical genres. By volunteering, Las Vegas will continue to grow as a cultural center celebrating jazz.”

Electrifying Montreal Guitar Trio and California Guitar Trio to perform at UNLV

The UNLV Performing Arts Center is thrilled to welcome back (by popular demand) the Montreal Guitar Trio (MG3) with the California Guitar Trio (CGT) at Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall on Friday, Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m.

Perennial favorite MG3 with the CGT will form a doubly electrifying ensemble of six exceptional guitarists. Audiences will enjoy original compositions and new arrangements fusing progressive rock, world, jazz, and classical music in a joyful musical phenomenon.

Described by the CBC/Radio-Canada as the hottest guitar ensemble, MG3 has quickly established itself as a force to be reckoned with, as well as an interactive force in various musical forms. For more than 20 years, the trio’s virtuosity, rigor, creativity, and impressive stage presence have been winning over audiences around the world.

The trio, composed of guitarists Sebastien Dufour, Glenn Levesque, and Marc Morin, have given hundreds of concerts in some of the most prestigious venues across North America, Europe, New Zealand, and Australia, including the legendary Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the BB King Blues Club in New York City.

Since 1991, CGT has enthralled listeners with a singular sound that fearlessly crisscrosses genres. Comprised of Paul Richards, Bert Lams, and Tom Griesgraber, the group has established a unique, personal connection with audiences. CGT’s 17 albums, streamed over 80 million times on Pandora, offer diverse snapshots of the group’s mercurial muse.

The trio’s most recent release, “Elegy,” showcases its acoustic side, with beautiful, lush originals and innovative cover arrangements of Beatles, Radiohead, Beach, classical works, and more. CGT has made a global impact, having served as the soundtrack for Olympics coverage, programs on CNN, CBS, ESPN, and NBC, and NASA has used their music to wake the crew aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour.

The UNLV PAC is proud to invite students throughout the county and the general public to a pre-show “Rap with the Artists” from 6 to 6:45 p.m. in the concert hall. Among other topics, the groups will discuss their artistic responses to the pandemic. Questions from the audience will be encouraged.

The UNLV Performing Arts Center is the original home for the arts in Southern Nevada; it opened in 1976 and celebrates its 46th season in 2022-2023.
