It’s day 13 of the Fallout Fringe Festival (already?) and more amazing shows are still arriving! Today I have one new play, which is a marvel and unlike anything I’ve seen at this festival before. It’s quite possibly my favorite thing in the Fringe, or at least in my top five. You can access the full schedule at www.falloutfringe.org/schedule.

Wren arrives at the Mariposa Hotel looking for her sister, Lottie. But this is no ordinary hotel. And very soon Wren finds herself in a dream - or a nightmare - and must make a desperate choice to save her sister and herself. All the way from Philadelphia, The Hum, a physical theatre, ensemble-driven group, brings us one of the most intriguing pieces of theater I’ve ever seen. From the very start, we are given a gestalt of actors, organically moving as one to create the environment. There are no props or set pieces, and minimal costumes. Highly choreographed to perfection, the story unfolds in a Lynchian style and tone with fascinating characters, a healthy dose of existential dread, and a surprising amount of humor. Every movement has purpose and meaning. It was an amazing spectacle to behold. This is a definite highlight of the festival, and you should put this at the top of your list of remaining shows to see. This is theater at its finest. You can find out more about this cast and their group at www.thehumensemble.com.
