The Fallout Fringe is almost over, and I am down to our last couple shows! Major kudos to our very own Paul Atreides with the reading last Sunday of his wonderful script Love’s Labor or Puck & Ariel Take Manhattan. Fantastic play, and a fantastic celebration of theater. Tonight we celebrate past romances and this messy thing we call love. You can access the full schedule at www.falloutfringe.org/schedule.

10 Lovers by Tracey L. Corea
Satisfying ★★★ ½
There’s a saying that you have to kiss many frogs to find your prince. And in 10 Lovers, Tracey Langran Corea invites us into the swamp among the lily pads to watch her journey not only to find love but, in the end, to find herself. We follow the true-life story of Corea, represented by herself and a younger version of her, played by Aurora Maria Murphy, as she navigates romances with various men, all played by Joshua James Berg, towards her perfect partner. The story is fairly straightforward and is told in an incredibly beautiful style. The mix of songs, dance, humor, and pacing effortlessly pulls us into this world and helps us empathize with Corea throughout, even when she does unlikable things. Corea is a wonder on stage. She is so likable from the get-go and has such charisma that you can’t help but root for her to succeed. Berg is at both times hilarious and charming, inhabiting a multitude of male characters, from duds to studs. Murphy delivers another wonderful performance, honoring Corea with gusto while also honestly portraying her flaws. As for the story, I would have liked to see more of Corea’s inner struggle between the bad girl and the girl next door. I think she can get much more honest and vulnerable with this piece. But as it is, it’s definitely a winner and a joy to watch. It’s a perfect piece to end the Fringe.
