PF Opens 2023-24 Season with Staged Reading of The Lifespan of a Fact

A Public Fit Theatre Company (APF) presents the first show of its 10th season, a staged reading of The Lifespan of a Fact by Jeremy Kareken & David Murrell and Gordon Farrell on Friday, September 29 at 7 p.m. and again on Saturday, September 30 at 2 p.m. at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road. Doors will open one half-hour before showtime and admission is FREE.

Based upon the book of the same name, The Lifespan of a Fact tells the story of John D’Agata and Jim Fingal - one a talented, transcendent essayist and the other the fact-checker assigned to scrutinize his latest essay for a once prominent but slowly failing magazine. As the future of the publication hangs in the balance, Jim and John battle head-to-head in a comedic yet fascinating battle over fact versus truth, art versus commerce. Based on a true story (and set in Las Vegas!), The Lifespan of a Fact is the perfect fable for an age challenged by a glut of misinformation.

“It’s a dynamic play about the very nature of truth,” says APF Artistic Director Ann-Marie Pereth. “Sometimes the truth hurts, as they say, but often even the smallest details can determine the veracity of any given story. It’s going to prompt a lot of conversation and I can’t think of a better way to launch our 10th season!”

Directed by Gigi Guizado, The Lifespan of a Fact features the talents of Eli Carlin, James Claflin, Lisa Mandel and Marcus Martinez and is offered in partnership with the Las Vegas Clark County Library District.

Immediately following each performance, audiences are invited to join the cast and production staff in a moderated discussion of the themes and discoveries presented in the play. This APF hallmark - The Buzz - ensures that the conversations surrounding captivating theatre are shared by the community. The Buzz is an expression of A Public Fit’s ongoing commitment to engage audiences well beyond the limits of the stage. “We’ve found that the shared experience of great story-telling doesn’t always have to end once the curtain falls,” says Pereth.

A Public Fit offers a seven-show season consisting of four staged readings and three mainstage productions. APF’s remaining shows for the 2023-24 season are: Indecent by Paula Vogel; Pipeline by Dominique Morisseau; X by Alistair McDowall; Exit, Pursued by a Bear by Lauren Gunderson; Dancing at Lughnasa by Brian Friel; and The Pavilion by Craig Wright.
