The The Southern Nevada Chapter of the American Guild of Organists presents its final concert of the season, as part of its fourteenth annual concert recital series. The Organ & Choir festival will pair local choirs with organists and other featured instrumentalists, performing music composed for choral groups and organ. More than 50 vocalists and musicians are expected to perform.

The Organ & Choir Festival will feature choirs from Joseph, Husband of Mary Catholic Church (under the direction of Joseph Cruz with organist Barbara Finn) and from Green Valley Presbyterian Church (under the direction of Kaymen Carter with organist Amy Homer Smith).
The Festival will celebrate both classical and sacred music by joining the sounds of the pipe organ with the human voice. In between choral groups, local organists will perform additional repertoire. These organists include Steve Wright (current dean of the SNCAGO and an organist at two local churches), Dorothy Riess (a retired physician and active professional recitalist), and Dr. Paul S. Hesselink (adjunct professor of organ at UNLV). Hesselink will perform with Coreen Levin, who served 24-years as an active duty oboist with the United States Air Force Band and is currently working on her doctorate in the musical arts program at UNLV.
Music selections will be performed on the Maurine Jackson Smith Memorial Organ. The instrument was built in 2004 by Rudolf von Beckerath Orgelbllau of Hamburg, Germany, and is the largest mechanical action instrument in the state. It features 38 stops, 58 ranks, 3 manuals and almost 3,000 pipes.

ABOUT THE SNCAGO: The Southern Nevada Chapter of the American Guild of Organists is an association of professional organists, choral conductors, musicians, teachers and enthusiasts and is part of the larger national organization, commonly called the AGO.
